Finding fun events for the little ones as a non native speaker in Helsinki can be tricky. It’s not that there isn’t an abundance of experiences, on the contrary there are some really interesting choices. Imagine there are sailing classes for kids! But between work projects, tending to daily errands and extracurriculars, plus finding time for that free yoga session you’ve been meaning to redeem (which is probably expired by now), non-essential things become less of a priority if it isn’t easily accessible. Which is why I’m so excited to share this great new find.

A few Sundays ago I visited the Lego Building Event, the largest of its kind in Finland and it was such a treat! I’ll admit, Lego was never a childhood favourite, but I’ve joined the ranks as their newest devotee. It was awe inspiring to see a full size replica if Hagrid, while at the same time taking in miniature Star Wars creations. The event was hosted in a sprawling expanse on the 1st floor of Messukeskus convention center, which worked on so many levels. There was space to explore different lego themes, create your own universe, and observe masterpieces from the exhibition. Best yet you could stock up on missing lego pieces, or find new treasures as there was a tidy corner for purchasing lego products. While it did get a little noisy at times, it clearly was a success. My little ones are still raving about their creation many weeks later.

Tips & Perks

Street Parking, Car Park

Price – affordable various ticket options are available. Single child 10€ – 15€ or Family tickets 35€. Special fare for students and seniors.

Atmosphere – kid-friendly. Prepare to get busy as the event is lively, open, and comfortably inhabited by lego fans of all ages.

Restroom access – amenities available for babies or small children.

Age appropriate from 2 years. Due to the noise factor, I would not recommend attending with infants. It’s especially fun with older children when building together is encouraged.

Stroller access – generous the main entrance is wide enough for double strollers to pass through. You can stroll through the event with the stroller in tow, or you can tuck it to the side while your little one delves into the fun.
