A great perk for having kids, apart from the terrific bundle of joy itself, is being able to style your mini-me anyway you like. The limitations that confront us as adults, for example the never-ending search for the perfect piece or fitted jeans, just doesn’t apply to our babes. Everything fits (most of the time), and the sizing is so much simpler and straightforward. Sure the time frame for fitting into said gear is tight. After all there are only so many outfits they can wear in a six-month period. But since you’ll be spending at least one year in the constant company of your little one (daycare doesn’t start until they’re twelve months), you may as well do it in style.

Along this vein, I’ve been actively scoping Helsinki’s kidscape, and I have to say, I’m delighted. There are really fresh brands and retail spaces that do a wonderful job of letting their personality reflect in the choice of offering. Gone are the proverbial pinks, blues and floral motifs that have dominated the marketplace.

Instead what you’ll find is a burst of Scandinavian, Nordic as well as a few French and Spanish brands that embrace bold colour schemes, unexpected prints, and interesting use of fabrics and textures.

Those high up on my list? Indikidual, Gardner and the Gang, Soft Gallery, 1+ in the Family, Pequeño Tocón, Louis Louise, 10is, and Easy Peasy. Naturally, the list goes on so stay tuned! Every week I’ll be offering tips and reviews of my favourite well made things that you and your little ones are sure to enjoy.
